Effects of male drinking on the fetus

Effects of male drinking on the fetus

Many men like to drink. But in fact, drinking is not a good thing. It not only affects the health of the drinker himself, but also affects the fetus if the man is preparing for pregnancy. It may even cause the child to have deformities during development. In addition, men who are preparing for pregnancy are not allowed to smoke. Smoking has a great impact on sperm and fetus!

1. Does men smoking when preparing for pregnancy have a big impact on the fetus?

1. Smoking can cause sperm abnormalities

Psychologists at the University of Florida in the United States have concluded through a controlled experiment that smoking weakens men's reproductive function. They divided 43 smokers and non-smokers into two groups for comparison, and considered sperm that was too large, too small, concentrated, deformed with vacuoles, multiple heads, multiple tails, and tail deformities as morphological abnormalities. The results showed that the normal value of sperm in smokers was lower than that in non-smokers. At the same time, it was also found that the sperm deformity rate was related to the amount of smoking. The concentrated smoke contains carcinogens, which are also present in the body fluids of smokers. When sperm is exposed to these carcinogens, it is easy to suffer genetic damage.

2. Smoking can cause chromosomal abnormalities

In order to illustrate the health hazards of tobacco at the chromosome level, Dr. Karenno of the United States conducted chromosome observations on different groups of smokers. The results showed that among the 46 chromosomes of normal people, only 7-10 were abnormal, while smokers could have sister haplotype exchanges in up to 20 chromosomes. At the same time, it was also found that the longer the smoking history and the greater the amount of smoking, the higher the rate of chromosome abnormality; the impact of smoking still exists even after stopping smoking for 3 months. In addition, the proportion of cells with chromosome abnormalities is 70% for smokers and only about 15% for non-smokers.

2. The harm of drinking alcohol by pregnant fathers

1. Impact on sperm

In men who drink alcohol for a long time, alcohol can kill sperm or damage sperm. If sperm is stimulated by alcohol for a long time, repeatedly, and in large quantities, the health quality of the sperm itself will decline, resulting in serious consequences such as low sperm count, weak sperm, and even infertility.

2. Harm to the fetus

If you get pregnant after drinking, it will also cause the baby's intrauterine development to be delayed. After birth, there will be dysfunction of the central nervous system, and various deformities will appear on the face and body, such as defects in the heart structure, and various deformities of the hands, feet, fingers, etc. The intelligence after birth will also be lower than that of ordinary babies. Therefore, men's drinking has a great impact on the fetus.

3. How long before pregnancy should you quit smoking and drinking?

1. Stop drinking

After drinking, it usually takes 2-3 days to excrete alcohol metabolites in the body. However, an egg cell will stay in the body for at least 14 days. Therefore, you can consider conception 3-4 weeks after completely quitting drinking. The sperm production cycle takes about 74 days, and after production, it will enter the epididymis to continue maturation for 16 days, a total of 90 days, before the sperm can truly become a "seed" with reproductive ability, so men should quit drinking at least 3 months in advance.

2. Quit smoking

For men who smoke more than 30 cigarettes a day, the proportion of abnormal sperm exceeds 20%, and the longer they smoke, the more abnormal sperm they have. Sperm can only return to normal after stopping smoking for half a year. If one or both spouses smoke frequently before pregnancy, the harmful ingredients in tobacco enter the reproductive system through the blood circulation and will have a toxic effect directly or indirectly. Therefore, couples who are preparing to get pregnant should quit smoking three or even six months before planning to get pregnant.
