Lymph node enlargement with total leukocyte count and neutrophilia is often seen in bacterial infection; lymph node enlargement with normal or decreased total leukocyte count and lymphocytosis is often considered viral infection; atypical lymphocytes (10% to 20% or more) may be found in patients with infectious mononucleosis; eosinophilia indicates parasitic infection or eosinophilic granuloma; lymph node enlargement with peripheral blood immature cells is mostly leukemia.

2. Bone marrow examination

Bone marrow smear cytomorphology examination, bone marrow pathology examination, bone marrow flow cytology examination, etc. are of decisive significance for the diagnosis of leukemia and lymphoma.
