2. Obstruction caused by external lesions includes arterial and venous lesions; female reproductive system lesions; pelvic tumors and inflammation; gastrointestinal lesions; retroperitoneal lesions (including retroperitoneal fibrosis, abscess, hemorrhage, tumors, etc.).

3. Segmental incompetence: Due to segmental muscle deficiency, incomplete development or anatomical disorder at the junction of the ureteropelvic ureter or the upper ureter, the normal peristalsis of this section of the ureter is affected, causing dynamic obstruction. If this lesion occurs at the entrance of the ureter to the bladder, congenital megaureter is formed, resulting in dilation and hydrops of the kidney and ureter.

4. Post-inflammatory or ischemic scars lead to local fixation. Vesicoureteral reflux causes ureteral distortion, and the fibrosis around the ureter eventually leads to obstruction of the ureteropelvic junction or the ureter.

5. Neoplasms, polyps and other neoplasms of the renal pelvis and ureter, which may be primary or metastatic. Stones and trauma and scars after trauma.

The obstruction of the urinary system causes the renal pelvis and calyx to dilate, and urine to be retained, which is collectively called hydronephrosis. Because of the accumulation of urine in the kidney, the pressure increases, causing the renal pelvis and calyx to dilate and the renal parenchyma to atrophy.

If the retained urine becomes infected, it is called infectious hydronephrosis; when the renal tissue necrotizes and loses its function due to infection, the renal pelvis is filled with pus, which is called purulent nephrosis or purulent kidney. The main cause of hydronephrosis is obstruction of the ureteropelvic junction.
