Male Catheter Removal Procedure

Male Catheter Removal Procedure

It is best to have a male catheter removed in a hospital because this surgery may cause pain and inflammation. We need to pay attention to the precautions before removing the catheter. We first release the gas in the balloon and then remove the catheter. Do not use too much force to avoid urethral damage and urethral bleeding and other serious symptoms. I hope everyone can pay attention to this.

A general male urinary catheter has an inflated balloon inside. The air inside needs to be released before it can be slowly pulled out. Be careful not to pull it out forcefully, otherwise it may cause urethral damage, urethral bleeding, or even urethral rupture. After the catheter is removed, instruct the patient to urinate as soon as possible.

What should you pay attention to when inserting a catheter for a man?

When inserting a catheter for a man in anatomy, you should pay attention to the following: disinfect the external urethral opening, then open the catheter bag, check the catheter balloon, lubricate the catheter with sterile wax oil, lay a towel over the hole, and insert the catheter 1-2CM after urine is seen. Then inject about 10ml of sterile saline to fix the catheter. The important thing to note is that the action should be gentle to avoid damaging the urethral mucosa.

Precautions for male catheterization:

1. Strictly implement aseptic techniques and disinfection systems to prevent nosocomial infection. Once the catheter is contaminated or removed, it must not be used again.

2. When inserting or removing the catheter, the movements should be gentle, slow, and steady. Do not use excessive force to avoid damaging the urethral mucosa.

3. For patients with highly distended bladders and extreme weakness, the first catheterization volume should not exceed 1000ml to prevent large amounts of urination, which may lead to a sudden decrease in intra-abdominal pressure and a large amount of blood retained in the abdominal blood vessels, causing a drop in blood pressure and prolapse. It may also cause a sudden decompression of the bladder, leading to rapid congestion of the bladder mucosa and causing hematuria.
