Why does the foreskin swell?

Why does the foreskin swell?

The foreskin is an important organ tissue that can wrap the penis and urethral opening and protect the health of the reproductive system. The probability of disease is also very high, causing serious consequences, so it will lead to foreskin edema. However, the factors of edema do not only include inflammation, it is very likely to spread many other diseases. These all require everyone to find the reasons and choose the appropriate treatment method according to the situation.

What to do if foreskin becomes swollen

Phimosis is a disease of the glans penis with the highest incidence (phthisis edema, redness and swelling of the foreskin). Almost all patients have phimosis or prepuce that is too long. Between the glans penis and the long foreskin, a warm and moist bacterial culture medium is formed due to the shed epithelial cells, glandular secretions and smegma bacteria. Once bacteria enter, they can cause inflammation. Inflammation of the glans penis and inflammation of the foreskin often exist at the same time, so they are collectively called glans penis prepuceitis.

The main cause of glans phimosis is phimosis or prepuce is too long. In addition, unclean sexual intercourse, drug stimulation or allergy are also the cause of the disease (foreskin edema, red and swollen foreskin). The symptoms of glans phimosis are redness, swelling, pain and itching of the glans penis and prepuce. Some may have erosion and ulceration, and have yellow purulent secretions with a special odor. In severe cases, glans penis necrosis may occur. Some patients develop adhesion and stenosis of the urethra after the acute phase, causing difficulty in urination. Repeated infection can cause the glans penis or prepuce to thicken and form white spots.

When taking certain drugs, allergic reactions may sometimes cause fixed edematous erythema of the foreskin to form on the glans penis or foreskin, with blisters in the center, which can cause infection after rupture. Symptoms usually occur within 24-36 hours after taking the drug, improve after stopping the drug, and reappear after taking the drug again. During the acute attack period of glans phimitis, the foreskin should be turned up, washed with 1:5000 potassium permanganate solution, and then antibiotic ointment should be applied. If the foreskin cannot be turned up, it should be incised and drained. While performing local treatment, oral or injected antibiotics are required. Antiallergic drugs should also be taken if it is caused by drug allergy.

Treatment of phimosis

Phimosis is usually caused by excessive foreskin or phimosis. Therefore, it is recommended that patients should go to a regular local hospital for surgical circumcision in time so that they can enjoy a happy sex life earlier. If the foreskin is too long or phimosis occurs, the accumulation of smegma may cause balanitis or glans penis inflammation. Over time, the inflammation will shrink the foreskin opening and form adhesions with the glans penis, which will lead to acquired phimosis. After suffering from inflammation and adhesions, the chance of phimosis after sexual intercourse will be greater.

What is the cause of foreskin edema?

Foreskin edema after circumcision: Men should not worry too much about the edema that occurs after circumcision. If the circumcision is done in a regular professional hospital, as long as the postoperative care is done well and the patient recuperates, the edema will generally disappear quickly.

Post-circumcision care:

1. You can have sexual intercourse one month after the operation.

2. Do not eat spicy food or irritating food within two weeks, and do not eat greasy food such as chicken, duck, beef, lamb and seafood.

3. Be careful to keep the wound dry and avoid contact with water.

4. If you experience any abnormal symptoms, go to the hospital for a checkup immediately.

Redness and swelling of the foreskin caused by phimosis of the glans:

Symptoms such as redness, swelling and itching of the foreskin caused by phimosis are also common. Experts say that such phimosis will initially cause local redness, redness and swelling of the penis skin, and burning and itching of the glans. When the foreskin is turned over, congestion and erosion can be seen, with exudate or even bleeding. After secondary infection, small ulcers and milky white foul-smelling secretions can be seen.
