Many male friends will find that their testicles swell after ejaculation after sex. What is going on? In fact, this is probably caused by orchitis. Orchitis is a disease that men often encounter in clinical practice. Its symptoms are mostly testicular pain, testicular enlargement, parotid gland enlargement, etc. If you suffer from this disease, you need to receive treatment in time. What is orchitis What is orchitis? Orchitis is a common disease of the male reproductive system, usually caused by bacterial and viral infections. Since the testicles have a rich supply of blood and lymph, they are more resistant to bacterial infections. The testicles themselves rarely have bacterial infections. Most bacterial orchitis is caused by inflammation of the adjacent epididymis, so it is also called epididymal orchitis. Common pathogens are Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Escherichia coli, etc. Viruses can directly invade the testicles, the most common being the mumps virus, which mainly invades the parotid glands of children. However, this virus can also invade the testicles, so viral orchitis often occurs shortly after the onset of mumps. Orchitis can be clinically divided into two types: acute purulent orchitis and mumps orchitis, of which acute purulent orchitis is the most common. There are many causes of orchitis, such as infection, trauma, and tumor. Causes of orchitis What are the causes of orchitis? The main causes of orchitis are bacterial infection, parasitic fungus, spirochete infection and mumps. 1. Bacterial infection. Common pathogens include E. coli, Staphylococcus, and Proteus. After infection, these bacteria will spread directly to the testicles and cause acute non-specific orchitis. Acute non-specific orchitis often occurs in patients with urethritis, cystitis, prostatitis, after prostatectomy, and long-term indwelling catheters. 2. Parasites, fungi, and spirochetes. Parasites destroy tissues near the testicles, causing chronic non-specific orchitis, which affects the normal spermatogenesis of the testicles and leads to male infertility. Those with previous testicular trauma may develop granulomatous orchitis. Local or systemic radioactive isotope phosphorus irradiation of the testicles may also cause orchitis and destroy testicular tissue. Incomplete treatment of non-specific acute orchitis may also lead to chronic orchitis. 3. Mumps. If patients with mumps do not receive timely and effective treatment, they are prone to orchitis. About 20% of patients with mumps have orchitis. This disease is more common in late adolescence, and the incidence in adult males is relatively low. The testicles are highly enlarged and purple-blue in color, visible to the naked eye. |
