Is there any difference between exfoliation and peeling?

With the change of temperature and the influence of climate, some dead skin or keratin will form on the surface of our skin. If it is not removed regularly, it will make the face look dull. So, from the perspective of skin care, what is the difference between dead skin and keratin?

The difference between dead skin and keratin

Dead skin is waste keratin. Keratin is divided into new and old. New keratin is renewed and the old keratin will fall off. When the skin is dry, the peeling that can be seen with the naked eye contains part of the keratin.

How to remove dead skin

The growth cycle of the skin is 28 days, that is, the stratum corneum of the epidermis metabolizes aging cells once every 28 days. When there are too many keratin cells (that is, what we call dead skin) accumulated on the epidermis, the skin will become rough, dull, and dull, and it is also easy to breed blackheads and acne. Therefore, removing dead skin can ensure the normal physiological metabolism of the skin and stimulate the production of new cells. However, frequent exfoliation will disrupt the growth cycle of the skin, damage the arrangement of skin cells, degenerate the elastic fibers of the capillary wall, and weaken its own function. Therefore, you must carefully understand your skin condition before exfoliating, and you cannot blindly follow it.

Exfoliation can be divided into physical exfoliation and chemical exfoliation.

Physical exfoliation refers to using exfoliating products containing abrasive particles to rub the skin to remove dead skin. This method is relatively irritating and is suitable for neutral skin, oily skin and skin with pigmentation. Be careful not to scrub the eyes.

Chemical exfoliation refers to applying an exfoliating cream or liquid containing chemical ingredients to the skin surface to soften the keratin cells attached to the skin surface, and then rubbing off the dead skin. This method is relatively less irritating and is suitable for dry skin, sensitive skin and aging skin.

Exfoliation can deeply cleanse the skin, remove the dirt that is difficult to remove from the pores, make the pores unobstructed, and make it easier to absorb more nutrients. It can remove excess oil and blackheads, and prevent the occurrence of skin diseases such as acne. It can remove aging cells, prevent the thickening of keratin, ensure that new skin cells can reach the surface of the skin faster, accelerate metabolism, and make the skin smooth.
