"Predicting" liver health from the eyes: Dry eyes are caused by insufficient liver blood

Dry eyes: Insufficient liver blood

Visual fatigue refers to symptoms such as blurred vision, eye swelling, dry eyes, burning pain, eye and eye socket pain, as well as general discomfort such as headache, nausea, and fatigue caused by continuous close viewing. If you often look at a computer or a book, excessive use of your eyes will consume liver blood.

The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine mentions one of the five injuries caused by fatigue: "Long-term viewing can cause blood damage." The "blood" here refers to liver blood. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that this disease is mostly caused by insufficient liver blood and liver and kidney yin deficiency, and should be treated by nourishing the liver and benefiting the kidney.

Red eyes with bloodshot eyes and blurred vision: Liver fire

Liver fire is mainly caused by irregular lifestyle, negative emotions, or excessive smoking and drinking. The liver meridian runs through the head, ears, and chest, so dizziness, tinnitus, and chest pain occur. At the same time, Chinese medicine says that "the liver governs the eyes", so liver fire often causes eye symptoms, such as red eyes, dry eyes, and excessive eye secretions. "Liver fire" can also cause dry mouth, bitter mouth, bad breath, tossing and turning during sleep, easy awakening, stuffy body, etc.

Yellow sclera: Hepatitis

"Scleral yellowing" is an important basis for diagnosing liver diseases. Hepatitis A and acute hepatitis B almost always have varying degrees of "scleral yellowing". If corneal pigment rings appear, this is the main feature of patients with hepatolenticular degeneration. According to statistics, the hereditary incidence of this disease can account for 90% of patients with this disease. With the naked eye, a yellow-green, blue-green or brown-yellow ring can be seen around the cornea with an edge width of about 2 to 3 mm.
