5 minutes to teach you how to understand semen analysis report

Friends who often go to the hospital should know that the analysis report is the most difficult to understand. Among them, the semen analysis report is one of the most complicated, with dozens of parameters. Today, the editor will teach you a few tricks so that you can understand it in minutes.

How to read the semen analysis report?

The first is to look at the amount of semen. The normal amount of semen is 2 to 6 ml. If it is less than 2 ml, it means that the amount of semen is a bit small. Although there are many sperms in a unit milliliter, it is only half a milliliter, which is too little overall. Too little will affect, and too much will also cause problems. Too much semen will be diluted, which will also affect his fertility.

The second thing to look at is the appearance. What is the color of the ejaculated semen? Under normal circumstances, the semen of men who ejaculate regularly should be milky white. If it has been a long time since ejaculation, it should be a little yellowish. If the color of the semen is red, it is hematospermia, and there is blood in it. If the semen is very yellow, it is not because the ejaculation time is very long, but there may be inflammation and infection in the semen, and there is pus in it. If the semen is very yellow and thick, and there are pus cells, yellow semen will appear. The most common ones are these two. Generally speaking, it is milky white, which is the situation of semen.

The third thing to look at is the pH value, the acidity and alkalinity. Under normal circumstances, the pH value is 7.2 to 8.0, which is slightly alkaline. Most semen is between 7.4 and 8.0. If the pH value is acidic, for example, below 7.0, it often indicates problems with the seminal vesicles and prostate glands. However, if it is too high, it often indicates inflammation. In other words, the pH value should be within a reasonable range. Too acidic or too alkaline is not good.

The fourth is to look at the liquefaction of semen. Liquefaction is a very important parameter. Why does it liquefy? The seminal vesicle fluid contains substances that promote the coagulation of semen. The coagulation process is to protect the sperm. Other impurities cannot enter and sperm cannot escape. The prostatic fluid contains substances that promote liquefaction, such as hydrolyzing protease, which can promote the liquefaction of semen. It should liquefy in 15 to 20 minutes. If it has not liquefied for more than half an hour, it may be a bit delayed. If it does not liquefy for more than an hour, it is not liquefied. Liquefaction is a very important indicator.

The fifth is to look at the density of sperm, that is, the number of sperm per unit volume, which we now call concentration. 40 years ago, the sperm density required was 60 million per milliliter, 20 years ago 20 million was enough, and a year ago 15 million was enough. This degeneration is mainly related to the environment and lifestyle. Now everyone sits there and does not go to the fields to work, there is less labor, and the original lifestyle has changed. Another thing is the survival rate. In the past, it was required to be more than 60%, and the earliest requirement was more than 70%. A year ago, the World Health Organization set a standard of more than 40%, and the standard is getting lower and lower.

The sixth is vitality, the ability of sperm to move, including fast linear movement, which is grade A, and slow linear movement, which is grade B. In the past, the standard for fast linear movement, grade A sperm greater than 25%, and A+B greater than 35%, was required a few years ago; a year ago, A+B greater than 32% was enough, which is the ability to move.
