What to do if the two testicles are not the same size?

Some more careful men often observe a symptom that is not easy for others to find in their daily lives. They feel that one of their testicles is larger than the other. The sizes of the testicles on both sides are different. Faced with such a phenomenon, men are first panicked and then can't figure out what is going on. Faced with such a phenomenon, it may indicate that men have many hidden diseases. So what should we do when faced with the phenomenon of different sizes of testicles on both sides?

The testicles are located in the scrotum, one on each side, and the left side is generally 1 cm lower than the right side. The testicles are slightly flattened elliptical, with a smooth surface, divided into inner and outer sides, front and back edges, and upper and lower ends. The front edge is free; the back edge has blood vessels, nerves and lymphatic vessels entering and exiting, and is in contact with the epididymis and the testicular part of the vas deferens. The upper and back edges are attached to the epididymis head, and the lower end is free. The outer side is convex and the inner side is flat. The testicles grow rapidly with sexual maturity, and shrink and become smaller with the decline of sexual function in old age.

The two sides of the testicles of normal adult males are not equal in size. Generally, the right side is slightly larger than the left side, which is not very obvious visually. However, due to individual differences, the left side may be larger than the right side. As long as the function is normal, it is generally considered normal. The average right side is 3.38×2.27×1.71 cm, 3.30×2.37×1.78 cm. If one side of the testicle is significantly larger than the other, common clinical reasons include orchitis, epididymitis, testicular foreign body, tumor, etc. The testicle is the male reproductive gland. If there is a problem and it is not treated in time, it will affect the male's sexual function and fertility.

Some people's testicles are large on one side and small on the other side from childhood, and the difference is very obvious. This is mostly caused by congenital diseases. For example, congenital unilateral testicular hypoplasia is manifested as one side of the testicle is very small and has a relatively thick texture, such as the infantile type, while the compensatory hyperplasia on the other side is larger than that of ordinary people, resulting in one side of the testicle being large and the other side being small, but this situation is relatively rare. Trauma to one side of the testicle can also cause one side of the testicle to be large and the other side to be small. Trauma causes bleeding and hematoma in the testicle, resulting in insufficient blood supply to the testicle, which gradually atrophies and is significantly smaller than the other side. The mumps virus can damage the epithelial cells of the testicular ducts, which is one of the important reasons for one testicle to be larger than the other, and eventually cause testicular atrophy. It is certainly abnormal for a child to have one testicle larger than the other. Either the larger side has hydrocele or the smaller side has testicular atrophy. Go to the hospital for an ultrasound to get a clear diagnosis and then decide how to treat it.

The mumps virus can also cause one side of the testicle to shrink. Of course, there are many reasons for the difference in the size of the testicles, but you should be careful not to think that other diseases in the scrotum are the cause of the testicle size. You should distinguish the cause to avoid misdiagnosis. In short, if there is any reason for the scrotum to change, one side is obviously larger than the other, you should go to the hospital for treatment in time.

Under normal circumstances, the testicles are the same size. If you find that the testicles on both sides are of different sizes, then you should take it seriously. In the face of such a phenomenon, you must seek treatment in time. When treating testicles of different sizes, you must first understand the cause of the symptoms and then treat them accordingly. Do not rule out the possibility of varicocele if the testicles are of different sizes. This disease will affect fertility and must be treated in time.
