However, in clinical practice, drugs are often given without obtaining bacterial tests, and the culture results cannot be waited for. This lacks a target in treatment and can easily lead to blindness.

2) It is necessary to distinguish between lower urinary tract infection and upper urinary tract infection. The treatment of the two is different. The former has a poor prognosis and is prone to recurrence, while the latter has a good prognosis and rarely recurs.

3) Issues regarding hematogenous and ascending infections: There are differences in the treatment of hematogenous and ascending infections. Hematogenous infections are acute, with high fever, chills, and obvious systemic symptoms. Drugs with high blood concentrations or intravenous administration should be used. Ascending infections are mainly characterized by bladder irritation, and drugs with high urine concentrations and anticonvulsants should be used. Hematogenous infections require intravenous administration.

4) It is necessary to find out whether there is any obstruction in the urinary system: because urinary tract obstruction is the direct cause of infection. At the same time, if obstruction exists after infection, it is difficult to cure, it is easy to produce drug-resistant strains, and it is also easy to relapse.

5) It is necessary to identify any factors that may induce urinary tract infection and correct them.

6) Variation of urine pH value: When a urinary tract infection occurs, the pH value of urine should be measured before treatment. If it is acidic, it means that the pathogenic bacteria are adapted to the acidic environment. Alkaline drugs, such as sodium bicarbonate and disodium monohydroxide, should be used to make the urine alkaline to inhibit the growth of bacteria, and antibacterial drugs suitable for alkalinity should be used. Vice versa, if the urine is alkaline, acidic drugs, such as sodium dihydrogen sulfate, ammonium chloride plus urotropine, vitamin C, etc., and antibiotics suitable for acidity should be used.

7) Treatment must be thorough to prevent it from becoming chronic. Acute urinary tract infections often become chronic due to improper treatment, including medication and dosage, which can lead to the development of drug-resistant strains, which often cause difficulties in treatment. When symptoms of urinary tract infection appear, they will be relieved after 24 to 48 hours with appropriate treatment. It is generally best to use the original dose for 7 days. If there is a history of infection, urinary tract obstruction and other inducements, the medication time must be extended, and the maintenance dose must be used for 2 to 6 weeks to prevent it from becoming chronic.
