What does a hyperechoic thyroid nodule mean?

What does a hyperechoic thyroid nodule mean?

When B-ultrasound is used to examine the thyroid gland, it is often found that the thyroid gland is uneven. The uneven thyroid gland echo mainly includes three types: low thyroid echo, high thyroid echo, and no thyroid echo. What does high thyroid echo mean? Is the uneven echo serious?

1. Uneven thyroid echo

1. Thyroid high (strong) echo area, calcification, metal, bone calcium. Strong echo in the thyroid is generally due to calcification due to aging, but it is important to distinguish whether it is the overall gland or the situation within the gland. If the overall gland has a strong echo, then malignancy must be considered.

2. Hypoechoic areas refer to nodules, solid masses, tuberculosis, etc. In the thyroid gland, they are generally considered to be nodules.

3. Anechoic areas generally represent liquid areas, which are seen in thyroid cysts, etc. Uneven thyroid echo is common in thyroid nodule diseases, but if not treated in time, it may lead to cancer.

2. Is the uneven thyroid echo serious?

1. Various ultrasound features of thyroid nodules can often indicate the possibility of malignancy: for example, ultrasound shows that the nodules are hypoechoic compared with normal thyroid tissue, the nodules are rich in blood supply, irregular edge invasion, microcalcification of the nodules, lack of halo, or the height of the nodules exceeds the width, etc.

2. Ultrasound suggests the presence of suspicious cervical lymph node infiltrate lesions.

3. Papillary thyroid carcinoma is usually a solid or mostly solid hypoechoic change, often accompanied by irregular marginal infiltration and abundant blood supply within the nodule.
