Intertrochanteric fractures, this treatment is effective

Intertrochanteric fractures, this treatment is effective

Among the problems that often occur in the elderly, the incidence of fractures is very high, and intertrochanteric fractures are also a type of fracture that the elderly should pay attention to. So, how should intertrochanteric fractures be treated?

1. Treatment options

After traction reduction, the patient must rest in bed and use plaster and brace for strong external fixation for about 8 weeks. Alternatively, surgical incision reduction and internal fixation treatment will have better results and reduce the occurrence of complications.

2. Treatment principles

(1) Treatment of comorbidities Comprehensive and systematic examinations of the elderly, detection of comorbidities and corresponding treatment are the key to reducing surgical complications and improving surgical success rates. If the medical comorbidities of the elderly involve multiple systems, the treatment is more complicated. It is best to cooperate with relevant departments to quickly and effectively control comorbidities in order to effectively prevent the occurrence of complications.

(2) Timing of surgery: Although some patients with intertrochanteric femoral fractures are still able to take care of themselves, if they are bedridden for a long time after the fracture, the patient's opportunities for exercise will be reduced, which will further aggravate the original chronic disease, increase the risk of surgery, and even lose the opportunity for surgery. Therefore, surgery should be performed as early as possible for intertrochanteric femoral fractures in the elderly to shorten the preoperative preparation time.

(3) The choice of anesthesia method is to choose an anesthesia method that has little impact on the respiratory and circulatory systems, has a short-term effect, and is highly controllable. Continuous epidural anesthesia is more suitable for elderly patients, and local anesthesia can also be chosen.
